- Joint ICTP-WE Heraeus Conference on Sustainability and Resilience Through Large Scale Infrastructures and Remote and Automated ExperimentsVeranstaltung mit Partnern Konferenz
This conference aims for global community building, international cooperation and scientific discussions across continents around large-scale research infrastructures. Scientifically it emphasizes on energy research (e.g. photovoltaics, chemical energy conversion, energy storage) representing one of the most pressing global problems. We will cover scientific infrastructures and possibilities offered at synchrotrons which can act as crystallization seeds for global collaboration - the second focus of the conference. Access to large-scale infrastructures, remote experiments and modern opportunities by digitalization, AI and automated experiments will be discussed before the conference is rounded up by hands-on remote experiments. Das Team der Infrarot-Beamline IRIS organisiert im Hinblick auf BESSY III, der am HZB geplanten neuen Synchrotron-Strahlungsquelle der vierten Generation, ein Kolloquium, das sich mit der Entwicklung und den Perspektiven von Infrarot-Spektroskopie an Speicherringen befasst.
Führende Experten auf diesem Gebiet werden Einblicke in die historische Entwicklung der Nutzung der far-IR- und Thz-Synchrotrontrahlung geben, und Anwendungen in Feldern wie der Material- und Lebenswissenschaft diskutieren. Das Kolloquium befasst sich mit dem aktuellen Stand der Beschleuniger-basierten IR-Spektroskopie, sowie deren Perspektive an Synchrotron-Strahlungsquellen der 4. Generation.
Im Anschluss an diese Veranstaltung, bei der auch die zahlreichen Beiträge von Dr. Ulrich Schade zu dem Feld der Synchrotronstrahlung-basierten IR-Spektroskopie anlässlich seines Eintritts in den Ruhestand gewürdigt werden, findet ein Empfang im Foyer des BESSY-Auditoriums statt.

With the series of annual user meetings we bring together our user community to intensify scientific exchange and stimulating new collaborations. The meetings will provide an overview of the many exciting and inspiring research results obtained at our facility in the past year. Plenary talks, discussions, a public lecture and a poster session will provide vast possibilities of information and discussion. The bestowals of the 'Prizes for Young Scientists' donated by the Freundeskreis Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin e.V. (FHZB) are traditional highlights of the user meetings.

- Quantsol Winter School 2025 - First Announcement and Call for ApplicationHZB Date Scientific school
We proudly announce the next “International Winter School on Analytics for Photovoltaics and Photoelectrochemistry 2025 (Quantsol)" which will take place February 8-14, 2025 in Hirschegg, Kleinwalsertal, Austria.
Be part of this thrilling and very informative event and apply through the Quantsol winter school’s homepage, which will be open for application until Friday 13th of December 2024, 23.59h CET.
The school primarily addresses young postdocs, PhD students, and master students in their final year at university with an interest and background in photovoltaics and solar energy conversion.
Invited speakers, all recognised scientists from leading world institutions, will give lectures covering a wide range of topics on the fundamental principles of advanced characterisation techniques as well as the physical and technical challenges.
The winter school will be very interactive, and the participants and speakers are requested to present themselves in a short speaking presentation on the first day of the school.
Please note that all previous Quantsol Winter Schools have been highly overbooked and therefore we only allow applicants that have not participated before. We would also like to point out that Quantsol unfortunately is not capable of giving any financial support.

- HZB Photon School 2025 - Call for ApplicationHZB Date Scientific school
Welcome to the HZB Photon School 2025 to be held in a hybrid format at the BESSY II synchrotron Light Source at the Wilhelm-Conrad-Röntgen-Campus, Berlin-Adlershof. Lectures will take place on-line from March 31st - April 4th, 2025 and trainings will be conducted on-site (*) from April 11th - 17th, 2025.
