grades 5 and 6: 9 am till 1 pm
How is matter structured? Why do different things have such different properties? Focus of the day is the connection between the structure and the properties of a material. The pupils will get to know the shape memory alloy Nitinol: a metal that can remember its former shape. This characteristic property is used a lot in different technologies and medical devices like surgical instruments or dental braces. They will experiment with this material and build their own shape for the metal to remember. This shape can later be taken home.
