School Lab
Magnetism and Supra-Conductors
maximum of 24 participants
grade 10: 9 am till 2 pm
grades 11-13: 9 am till 3 pm
When do magnetic forces pull and when do they push? And how are they used in everyday life? The pupils will analyse magnetic poles and fields around magnets and deepen their understanding and knowledge of electromagnetism, induction and eddy currents. This will form the foundation of the Meißner-Ochsenfeld-effect which will play a major role in experiments throughout the day.
A presentation will provide insight into the research done at the HZB. For 11th grade and above the visit of a laboratory is possible. Here scientists will take the time to present their topics of research and answer questions.
At last a quiz in which pupils can verify their answers for themselves will help to wrap up the day.
For 11th grade and above it is possible to have lunch at the cafeteria. Classes of grade 10 are asked to bring lunch themselves.
