Instrument control
In order to control the instrument components, drive scans, aquire and protocol data the in-house-developed program CARESS is used. It integrates the E3 motor control (ST222), encoders, counters, detectors and temperature controllers. CARESS currently runs on a Linux workstation and provides a graphical user interface (GUI, see figure 1) to drive instrument components and set up scans. The resulting CARESS output files contain protocol information, instrument state parameters, the scan values and area detector pictures to be processed towards strain, stress and texture analysis.
Analysis software
The E3's main business is to analyze applied or residual stress by measuring local lattice strains. Hence, peak fitting routines are used to precisely determine the lattice spacings. The program StressTexCalculator (SteCa) was developed to give instrument responsibles and users an easy-to-use software tool to analyse the measurement data and is currently used for most of the experiments on E3. It features fast detector-picture-to-diffractogram calculation, background correction, intuitive peak profile analysis and automated peak fitting for multiple data files. Thus, it also extracts texture information from pole figure measurements.
We thank the author Christian Randau for permanently advancing this program and for his continuous support.
