Being Germany’s only third generation XUV-light source gives BESSY II a unique position in the scientific landscape. The synchrotron radiation source BESSY II provides more than 25% of the available XUV-infrastructure in Europe and serves as the European standard for SR-metrology in 2000.
The storage ring BESSY II is extremely flexible by using low-alpha operation mode and superconducting insertion devices. Starting in the THz region the energy range spans more than eight orders of magnitude and reaches into the hard X-ray regime delivering synchrotron radiation to some 50 experimental stations.
Of the 16 straight sections 14 are equipped with insertion devices the most challenging being the new UE-112, a 7T multipole wiggler, and the femtoslicing assembly.
