Diversity is our strength
We are convinced that living and appreciating diversity has a very positive impact on our centre and on society. Different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives enrich us and promote the creativity and innovative strength of HZB.
For a respectful working environment: our Code of Conduct

We promote cooperation between people of different ethnic backgrounds and nationalities, ages, gender identities, physical and mental abilities, religions, and sexual orientations. We attach great importance to an atmosphere that is characterized by respect and fairness, appreciation, safety, and openness.
Diversity is an important part of our organizational culture. The values we stand for at HZB can be found in our Code of Conduct
We take a firm stance against discrimination, sexual harassment, bullying, and abuse of power. In the event of conflicts and problems, contact persons and persons of trust as well as established processes for de-escalation are available.

Shaping diversity" audit by the Stifterverband

The Stifterverband has certified HZB in 2021 for its strategies in dealing with diversity (see press release). Many employees have voluntarily participated in this process to promote diversity at HZB.

Member of the Diversity Charter
HZB signed the Diversity Charter in 2022. This makes us one of 6,000 companies and institutions that have committed to an appreciative and unprejudiced working environment. This participation is important to create a work environment in which people feel valued and that suits their needs.
Inclusion

For us, equity and inclusion mean that we provide our employees with the right tools and conditions for them to develop and reach their full potential.
We are committed to ensuring that all employees have the same opportunities to exert influence, participate and develop as individuals. Everyone should be able to grow personally and receive the appropriate support to do so.

How we promote diversity
Embracing diversity at HZB is everyone's concern. That is why we promote exchange and a diversity-sensitive work culture with various instruments and offers.
- Events and further training opportunities on various aspects of diversity (including intercultural skills, non-violent communication, and sexual harassment)
- Office for Work an Life located at our HR to support the compatibility of work and private life (extended family concept)
- Event “International Women's Day at HZB” to raise awareness of the topic of equal opportunities with workshops for women
- Lectures, workshops and individual counseling on topics of children & education, care, personal development and health
- Mental first aiders on site and psycho-social counseling in case of crisis
- Welcome session for new employees incl. an introduction to the HZB's values
- Networks, exchange and participation for employees, e.g. Diversity Discussion Rounds, company sports, and summer parties, ...
