Technical Design and Manufacturing
Technical Design
The department of Technical Design is the central design department at the HZB. The entire internal demand for precision mechanical assemblies and product specifications is constructed with 3D-CAD-Systems. Projects are accompanied, in collaboration with internal and external manufacturers, until the delivery and implementation.
Manufacturing
The Manufacturing department provides the central service of mechanically creating and repairing work pieces, assemblies and research equipment. The following methods of advanced manufacturing are available in Adlershof and Wannsee: CNC-Turining and –Milling, Laser- and Water Jet Cutting.
Strong Collaboration
The departments Technical Design and Manufacturing are working hand in hand to convert ideas to solutions. The most recent example of this collaboration is the new detector chamber for VEKMAG and ALICE, which is going to replace the existing one. The design is based on the procedures by Hanjo Rühl and was technically realized by Markus Bürger. Afterwards the design was manufactured to meet the required criteria in the workshop in Wannsee by Torsten Albinius, Uwe Zuther und Shayne Fraiss. The process of the procurement and manufacturing are completed. Now follows the final assembly, initial operation and characterisation.
