Training
Have you just finished school?
Then come and join us!
Start off your professional career with an apprenticeship or a sandwich degree at HZB! At any given time, we have around 40 young people training in eight professions and three sandwich courses. Experienced trainers prepare you for future-proof careers, and teach you useful and profound knowledge and skills. With us, everything is team-oriented and project-oriented from the start, in a highly exciting research environment. We motivate you towards working independently with personal responsibility – and with success: many graduates have even completed their training at HZB as the best of their year, and gained recognition through winning prizes.
We normally offer six months of employment after you graduate. During these six months, you can continue to develop your skills further while looking for a position inside or outside HZB.

Business Administrator for Office Management
With us you will get to know the administration of a scientific, internationally oriented, public research facility. You will gain an insight into varied and interesting tasks in different areas, e.g. finance and accounting, human resources, purchasing and materials management, internal auditing, public relations etc. You can find more information here.
Precision Mechanic
Do you want to do some hands-on work and learn everything from soldering, welding and thermal cutting to assembling components and programming and operating machine tools, and not always produce the same parts, but get to know and develop completely different devices? Catering Specialist
Do you love cooking and find it exciting how to properly receive and look after large groups of guests? Then training as a specialist in the catering industry is just right for you! Read more here.
IT Specialist (speciality System Integration)
One of the most important prerequisites for being successful as an IT specialist at HZB is enjoying working with computers and people. It will be your job to convey detailed technical knowledge to laypersons; if you are sociable and enjoy communicating and are interested in planning, implementing and operating IT systems, this is the right job for you! Cook
Would you like to learn how to cook professionally and manage the canteen of an international research institution?

Physics Lab Assistant
You will learn how to use laboratory equipment and how to set up experimental equipment. In addition, you will be able to carry out measurements and prepare sample material independently after the training. Learn more about your training here.
Electronics Engineer für Operating Technology

Mechatronics Technician

Computer Science (BSc)
Have you always been interested in learning programming, but also in passing on technical knowledge to users? Would you like to know how the IT systems that shape our everyday lives work and find out more about how these systems are used in an international research institution to generate the latest research results? Design and Manufacture (B.Eng.)
In this degree programme you will learn the theoretical basics of design and production and will be able to apply these directly in practice at our modern machines for our electron storage ring BESSY II and in our laboratories. Are you interested in this degree programme? Then find out more here!
Laboratory and Process Engineering, majoring in Beam Technology (BSc)
With us you will learn how to implement the legal requirements for radiation protection, how to enforce these rules in a research institute and how to monitor and document them.
