HZB at the Berlin Science Week

From November 1 to 10, 2024, researchers will come together in Berlin to discuss current topics with the public. The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) is participating with an art installation in the Tiny Galleries at Holzmarkt 25:

The brightest light in Berlin is provided by our X-ray source BESSY II. Our art installation shows you how this works and what you can research with BESSY II.

Materials shape our world, surround us and enable us to live ever more comfortably. Mankind's knowledge has also traveled through time on material carriers, from the Nebra Sky Disk to ancient parchments and modern data storage devices. Today, materials research is tackling new questions and using the Berlin X-ray source BESSY II to do so.

HZB researchers and groups of scientists from all over the world are using them to reveal the secrets of materials: What happens inside solar cells, batteries or catalysts? Why do some materials work particularly well while others fail completely? And how can materials be designed to achieve a desired property? At BESSY II, we are developing environmentally friendly and efficient technologies for a more sustainable future.

We invite you to visit the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin installation during Berlin Science Week and discover the diverse research opportunities that Bessy II offers.
