Access to licensed electronic ressources from non-HZB computers
Access with a local browser
Only if you are authorized by the service provider, you allowed to view non-free content (electronic journals, databases, e-books, EBSCO discovery service and more).
For this purpose the IP address (more precisely the IP address visible from the outside) of your computer is used and communicated to the provider.
If your computer shows an address from HZB´s ranges to the service provider, this will be recognized by the external server and access will be granted to them. Many providers then indicate on their pages that you are accessing via HZB under licence.
If not you may gain access with your HZB ID via an institutional login dialogue at many providers.
This option is offered to you in the login dialogue of the service provider.
Select or search for the HZB (keywords HZB or Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin) , then our HZB login dialogue appears.
You´ll need your HZB user ID, the correspondig password and a one time password (6 ciphers) generated by your authenticator with the HZB user token to authenticate. If this is passed successfully, you will be taken back to the provider's page, but now authorised.
The login will be saved in your browser for a certain time.
In addition to the HZB user password, you need a 6-digit one-time password generated with your HZB user token as a second factor.
Access with GOAT and a browser at HZB
For external access, use the Guacamole access service and the SAS terminal server at HZB:
- Open https://goat.helmholtz-berlin.de with a browser and log in there with HZB user ID, user password and one-time password generated with the user token in the Authenticator.
- Open a session there with the SAS terminal server.
- Open a browser in SAS, e.g. Firefox.
For file transfer, please use our cloud nubes if available or use Grommnio Files in a browser.
